Three first team stars Benitez should offload at Newcastle

|

Mohamed Diame, 29 – Attacking midfield

Versatile midfielder Diame was a new arrival last summer, having been signed from Hull City despite the two clubs swapping leagues.

Utilised in a variety of roles, from central midfield to operating just off the striker, his ability and experience should have proved vital to Newcastle’s hopes of promotion.

However, he really failed to live up to expectations, providing just three assists and scoring three goals, the most important of which came as a complete fluke against Brighton.

He showed glimpses of what he was capable of, with powerful running and intelligent passing, but too often the game passed him without him having any real effect.

His experience of both the Premier League and the Championship means that Newcastle should be able to demand a pretty penny for him, while there are players at Newcastle who could fill his role quite easily.

2016/17: Appearances: 37 – Goals: 3
