Pedro Caixinha must solidify his defence by taking his influx of new players at Rangers into double figures with a move for Derby defender Cyrus Christie.

Sun transfer expert Alan Nixon claimed on his personal Twitter account that north-east duo Sunderland and Middlesbrough are keen on the 24-year-old defender.

It is said that Sunderland had held an interest in the 10-time Ireland international, but Garry Monk’s Boro are more likely to sign the versatile defender in the coming months.

Christie was a key part of a Derby side that finished in ninth position, playing on either side of the defence despite breaking his foot which kept him sidelined between November and January.

Caixinha made his ninth signing on Thursday in midfielder Graham Dorrans, who joins Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack, Carlos Pena, Dalcio, Daniel Candeias, Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos.

However, This Is Futbol considers three reasons why Caixinha should continue in his Rangers overhaul by bringing defender Christie to Ibrox in a move that could hold the key in catching Celtic next season.
