Portuguese football expert and Libson-based journalist Tom Kundert has spoken highly of Rangers’ new signing Bruno Alves.

The Ibrox giants have completely overhauled their squad this summer with as many as nine players joining after a third placed finish in the last campaign.

Many of the new signings share the Portuguese nationality with manager Pedro Caixinha with the likes of Dalcio, Daniel Candeias and Fabio Cardoso all joining.

But, it is the name of centre-back veteran Alves which has got supporters excited and ESPN journalist Kundert has told that the defender is now playing better than ever.

“Bruno Alves has never had pace but that has not stopped him performing as a high-class centre-back for over a decade,” told Kundert to the Evening Times.

“You can even argue that as he has reached the twilight of his career and is even slower than in the past he is playing better than ever, having checked a violent streak and making good use of his vast experience.

“Put him alongside a quicker centre-back partner and I’m sure he can do a fine job for Rangers.”

Alves’ name is one of the most recognised of Rangers’ new summer additions with Caixinha showing his knowledge to bring in a number of players from across the world.

The defender however was unable to play in the club’s recent humiliation in Europe which saw them knocked out by Luxembourg-based club Progres Niederkorn due to featuring for Portugal in the Confederations Cup this summer and supporters will now be hoping the former Fenerbache and Zenit St. Petersburg centre-back can help solidify their back line.

Rangers will kick off their Premiership campaign with an away clash against Motherwell on August 6.
