Defender Saidy Janko has thanked Celtic fans for their support on Twitter after it was confirmed that he had left Glasgow for Saint-Etienne.

It was announced on Friday afternoon by the French side’s official website that the 21-year-old would join the Ligue 1 club after two years with the Hoops.

The Switzerland Under-21 international initially made the switch to Celtic in the summer of 2015 from Manchester United, agreeing a four-year deal at the club.

However, his time in Scotland was plagued by injuries and Janko referenced his troubles via his personal Instagram account on Friday evening, while also paying a special tribute to the famous Parkhead crowd.

Janko ended up appearing just 19 times for Celtic during his two years at the club with a loan spent at Barnsley in the English Championship in the last campaign, where he played on 14 occasions.

He will now be looking to kick start his career back up with Saint-Etienne, who achieved a eighth placed finish in the French top-flight last season.

Celtic, meanwhile are well covered in the right-back position with both Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa and Brendan Rodgers’ men will be keen to replicate last season’s success, while also wishing Janko well in his future endeavours.
