French side Saint Etienne have confirmed the signing of defender Saidy Janko from Celtic on a four-year deal.

Les Verts made the announcement on their official website, with the Swiss right-back leaving the club after just two years having joined from Manchester United in 2015.

Janko, 21, made just one appearance during his time at Old Trafford, in a shock 4-0 defeat to MK Dons in the League Cup which saw him hooked at half time by his then-boss Louis van Gaal.

His time at Celtic was a little better in terms of first team action, as he made 19 appearances across all competitions, his debut coming in their Champions League qualifying defeat to FC Malmo in 2015.

However he missed much of his first season with the Hoops as a result of a serious ankle injury, and he only returned for the final three fixtures of the campaign.

Last season saw him make two appearances for Celtic at the start of the season, before he was shipped off on loan to English Championship side Barnsley.

He struggled to earn himself game time at the beginning of his loan spell, as he was limited to brief cameo appearances from the substitutes bench.

However, he managed to work his way into the starting XI and retained his place for the majority of games from April, to make a total of 14 appearances, having scored one goal and provided one assist.
