Celtic are in advanced talks to secure Kolo Toure to a one-year deal at the club, according to RMC Sport.

The French sports news outlet claim on their website that the Ivorian centre-back is being lined up for a future role as a coach at the club, having seen his one-year contract with the club expire this summer.

The 36-year-old was brought into the club by boss Brendan Rodgers on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool, in a bid to bolster the Hoops’ defence with his experience.

The former Manchester City man has 354 Premier League appearances to his name, as well as 118 caps for the Ivory Coast, making his international debut back in the summer of 2000.

However he was firmly a fringe player at Celtic last season, making just nine Scottish Premiership appearances, and a total of 17 outings across all competitions.

However, Rodgers is believed to have been impressed with the veteran defender’s approach to the game, and it seems he has the 36-year-old lined up for a role among the coaching staff over the coming seasons.

The Northern Irish manager has already brought in three new faces to the club, in the shape of Jonny Hayes, Olivier Ntcham and Kundai Benyu.

Celtic dominated Scottish football during the last campaign, finishing the domestic season unbeaten and picking up a treble of the league title, the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup.
