Watford are currently in talks with Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah over a permanent deal this summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Hornets are close to securing a deal worth £5million for the 22-year-old with add-ons depending on appearances and potential international honours.

It is said that the youngster held discussions with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte over his chances of playing in the first-team but the Italian was reportedly unable to promise him a regular place in the side next season.

The report claims that the midfielder is adamant that money is not a main factor in his move away from Stamford Bridge and insists that he wants to get more minutes under his belt in the Premier League.

Watford are looking to improve on their 17th place finish in the league last season with new manager Marco Silva.

The youngster will find it easy to adapt to life in Hertfordshire as he played for the Hornets during a loan spell in the 2012-13 campaign.

The Englishman was one of the best performers for the club that season, contributing with five goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.

The midfielder’s contribution helped Watford to reach the Championship playoff final but they were unable to get promoted as Crystal Palace beat them 1-0 at Wembley Stadium.

Chalobah’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires next summer.
