Tottenham are preparing to table a second offer for young Argentine defender Juan Foyth after their opening bid was rejected, according to Diario Hoy.

The Argentine media outlet claimed on Tuesday morning that Spurs’ initial bid of £5.4million for Foyth, 19, was received by his club Estudiantes in recent hours.

Diario Hoy report that the offer did not meet Estudiantes’ valuation but a new one is soon expected as the two clubs continue to negotiate a transfer that is increasingly likely.

It is said that Foyth’s representatives are preparing the documents necessary for him to move to England and he could be transferred to Spurs in the “next few hours”.

Foyth, who can at centre-back as well as holding midfield, played for Argentina at the Under-20 World Cup won by England earlier this summer and appeared in his team’s 3-0 defeat by England.

Due to his involvement for the age-group side and his increasing role at Estudiantes this year, there is a growing confidence in the Foyth camp that he will be successful in his application for a UK work permit.

The teenager could become Spurs’ first signing of the summer as the club rebuild their squad following the sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City on Friday for a record-breaking fee for an English player of £54million.

Tottenham also agreed the transfer of another Argentine last Saturday night when Federico Fazio was sold to Roma for £2.8million.

Foyth, who is reported to have already agreed personal terms with Tottenham, was promoted to the Estudiantes first team in January of this year and made his debut for the club in March.
