Tottenham have tabled an improved bid of £26million for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva, according to A Bola.

The Portugese publication claim that Spurs are making a big push to sign the central midfield creator, 28, this summer.

A Bola report that the Premier League club’s opening offer of £17.5million was rejected but they have returned to the negotiating table with a second bid worth £26million in total.

It is said that the fresh offer is made up of an initial transfer fee of £21.7million plus £4.3million in performance-related add-ons.

Previous reports on Portugal, including by Jornal de Noticas have claimed that £26million would be enough to seal the deal for Silva, who has 17 Portugal caps and was a member of their Euro 2016 winning side.

Silva has previously stated his ambition to play in a different country, and has named the Premier League as an ideal destination.

The Sporting academy product has claimed he has a verbal agreement with the club’s president Bruno de Carvalho that he can leave if the right offer is tabled.

Silva was one of the Portugese club’s top performers in the recently completed domestic season, scoring six goals and providing four assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.

It is an impressive haul for a relatively deep-lying player and demonstrates his development since breaking into the first time at Sporting in January 2008.

Silva has since played 232 league and cup games for Sporting which have yielded 38 goals and 19 assists.

Tottenham have yet to sign any players in the summer transfer window, although they have been strongly linked with signing a new striker, a playmaker, a right-back to replace Manchester City-bound Kyle Walker, a centre-back and a reserve goalkeeper.
