Tottenham have confirmed that they have sold forward Clinton N’Jie on a permanent basis to Ligue 1 giants Marseille.

Spurs announced in a post on their official Twitter account on Sunday morning that they had “reached an agreement” with the French club, who he spent last season on loan with.

The comes after the London Evening Standard reported that Marseille had already completed a £6million permanent signing of the 23-year-old, but no official confirmation had been made until Sunday.

N’Jie moved to Tottenham for a fee worth £8.3million in 2015 after rising through the rank of the Lyon youth team.

He penned a five-year contract with the Londoners, but only managed one year before he was deemed surplus to requirements by Mauricio Pochettino and shipped out on loan back to France with Marseille.

The 19-times Cameroon international made 23 appearances for Marseille and scored four goals in the process, but he struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot as he started just 11 matches in Ligue 1.

N’Jie’s miserable spell with Spurs is compounded by the fact that he failed to find the net in his meagre 14 appearances in all contests for the club.

He isn’t the only player to be axed by Tottenham in recent days, following Kyle Walker’s big-money switch to Manchester City and Federico Fazio’s permanent transfer to Roma.
