Ross Barkley has broken his Twitter silence with a message about tennis – and Tottenham fans have urged him to quit Everton and join their club.
Barkley took to his personal Twitter account on Sunday evening to acclaim Roger Federer as “the greatest” after he secured a record-breaking eighth Wimbledon title at the age of 35.
The greatest, @RogerFederer. Record breaker, history maker. ????????

It was Barkey’s first post on the social media site in three months, a period in which he has been strongly linked with a transfer from Goodison Park to White Hart Lane.
Coincidentally, the playmaker’s message came on the day that reports claimed Spurs were making progress in their bid to sign him during the current transfer window.
The Independent claim that Everton ready to drop their £50million valuation of the club’s academy product in order to agree a deal before the transfer window shuts next month.
It is said that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is a big admirer of Barkley and can help him achieve his immense promise.
With the Merseysiders seemingly willing to relent on an asking price that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy considers “unrealistic”, the White Hart Lane faithful are getting excited about the possibility of Barkley joining their young and vibrant side.

Tottenham are the only Premier League club not to buy a player in this summer’s window, while Everton have brought in six new signings at a cost of over £100million.
They include Davy Klaassen, who can play in Barkley’s No10 role, and reports have strongly linked the Merseysiders with a £45million pursuit of Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson.
