Roma have made an approach to sign Manchester United striker Anthony Martial this summer, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim on the live transfer blog on their website (09:49) that the Italian side were hopeful of securing a loan move for the 21-year-old, and have made an enquiry to the Reds over his availability.

However, they report that United are not looking to entertain a temporary move for the 15-cap French international, and so state that Roma could return with a bid of more than £30million to secure his signing.

Martial arrived at Old Trafford from Monaco in a £51million move back in 2015, and has got another two years left on his contract.

Able to play on either flanks as well as an out-and-out striker, he has already managed to make 91 appearances for the Reds, scoring 25 goals and providing another 17 assists for his team mates across all competitions.

However, he has found himself in and out of the side under manager Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese coach joined last summer, but still managed to make 42 appearances, scoring eight goals and chipping in with eight assists.

He may now be considering his options following the imminent arrival of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, the Everton striker likely to be Mourinho’s first choice centre forward with Martial likely to be pushed onto the wing or even onto the bench.
