Newcastle United are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claims that the Premier League champions have made the major decision to send the 21-year-old out on loan for the upcoming campaign and the Magpies are reportedly keen on snapping up the midfielder.

The report claims that the Tyneside club will face competition from a number of top flight teams who are also eager to sign the youngster, including fellow newly-promoted Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion.

Newcastle have already made business with the Blues this summer as they signed Christian Atsu on a permanent deal following his impressive loan spell last season.

The Englishman is unlikely to feature in the Chelsea first-team next season as the West London club are reportedly on the verge of signing AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is someone who knows what the midfielder is capable of producing as the Englishman was plying his trade in the Under-18 squad when the Spaniard was in charge at Stamford Bridge during the 2012-13 season.

Since breaking into the first-team squad in 2014, Loftus-Cheek has failed to nail down a regular place in the starting line-up but he has been regarded for some time as a rising star of English football.

The Englishman only managed to make 11 appearances for Chelsea last season but he still contributed with two assists from midfield.

The youngster’s current contract at Stamford Bride expires in 2021.
