Manager Rafa Benitez is growing increasingly frustrated over Newcastle’s lack of activity within the transfer window so far, according to a recent report in the Daily Mail.

The newspaper has revealed that the Toon boss is becoming more irritated over the slow progress the club are making this summer, as the club have only managed to secure two signings during the current transfer window so far, which includes former loan star Christian Atsu and Florian Lejeune.

The Daily Mail claim that the main frustration for the boss was the club’s failed attempts to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, who has been loaned out to Swansea, in addition to former Manchester City keeper Willy Caballero who was snatched by Chelsea.

It is said that the support from the Newcastle United fans have provided Benitez with the motivation to continue to strengthen the squad, despite a number of set backs.

The report states that Newcastle’s pursuits for wingers Jacob Murphy and Adam Traore both look unlikely, despite the Magpies’ interest.

In addition, the former Liverpool manager is set to lose out on Man City star Jesus Navas, who looks increasingly likely to journey back to Spain and join La Liga outfit Sevilla instead of moving to St. James’ Park.

Benitez looks to still be displaying his best efforts to improve the newly-promoted squad ahead of their return to the Premier League in just a few weeks.

His team are set to travel across to Ireland for their pre-season training in the coming weekend and currently it looks as though Lejeune will be the only new addition to the Magpies’ squad for the trip.

The Mail report that Benitez and Lejeune were “baffled” that his £8.7million transfer from Eibar took five weeks to complete.
