Newcastle United have announced that a singing section for fans will return to St James’ Park for the upcoming season.

The club revealed the news on their official website, with the move coming in collaboration with Magpies supporter groups Wor Hyem 1892 and Gallowgate Flags.

The news will delight the majority of fans, as the club make a bid to improve the atmosphere at St James’ Park.

The 52,000-plus seat stadium has built a recent reputation of a lacklustre atmosphere when the team are not performing, and it appears that fan groups and the club both want to change this ahead of their return to the Premier League.

It is the second update of the summer regarding the placement of fans at St James’ Park, after the Daily Mail reported that the Premier League would continue to allow the Magpies to house away fans in the top tier of the stadium, despite new regulations coming into force.

The Magpies averaged an attendance of 51,062 last season, despite playing in the second tier of English football, while their total attendance across the campaign hit seven figures, at 1,175,442.

Newcastle fans will be able to welcome their side’s return to the top flight at their home clash with Tottenham in August, and they will be hoping to replicate the last day of the 2015/16 season when they trounced Spurs 5-1.
