Newcastle United are interested in signing Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson during the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the North London club are looking to raise funds in order to pursue a move for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and the 25-year-old could potentially be one of the players allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Jenkinson is not the only Arsenal man who has been linked with a move to St James Park as the Mirror recently reported that the Magpies are keen on signing Kieran Gibbs this summer and an offer in the region of £8million would be enough to secure his signature.

The full-back has not managed to become a first-team regular in the Arsenal squad since his permanent move from London rivals Charlton Athletic six years ago.

The young Englishman suffered a ligament injury at the start of last season which kept him on the sidelines for most of the campaign.

Jenkinson only managed to feature in 12 matches in all competitions for the Gunners but he still contributed with one goal and two assists.

The full-back is unlikely to have a long-term future with Arsenal as he was omitted from the official pre-season squad to tour Australia this summer.

The defender currently has one year remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium.
