Newcastle are set to secure the signing of Norwich wide forward Jacob Murphy for a fee in the region of £12million, according to a reliable journalist.

Kasper Wikestad, a sports reporter for Norway’s largest television broadcaster TV 2, has reported on his personal Twitter account, which has 71.9k followers, that the 22-year-old will join the Magpies on a three-year contract.

His tweet translates to: “Appears that Jacob Murphy becomes Newcastle player for around £12 mill. Steep curve. League One, Championship, the Premier League in three seasons.”

The winger has just one full season of Championship experience under his belt, having made 40 appearances, scoring eight goals and tallying eight assists during the last campaign.

The season previous saw him loaned out to League One side Coventry City, where he turned out 42 times, and, with Wikestad claiming a move to Premier League side Newcastle is complete, the “steep curve” of his career appears to have reached the peak.

Murphy has been a top target of the Magpies this summer, and has reportedly been the subject of a number of bids in an attempt to secure his services.

Earlier today the Chronicle reported that Newcastle had submitted a £10million bid to Norwich, having previously seen an £8million offer turned down by the Championship side.

Today also saw Norwich leave Murphy out of the squad entirely for their pre-season friendly against Cambridge, which appeared to have offered Newcastle a huge boost in his pursuit.
