Newcastle in hunt for La Liga duo Willian Jose and Casilla

Newcastle are considering making a move for Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose and Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla this summer, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper report on their website that the Magpies are looking to secure a third signing of the summer before their friendly against Hearts on Friday, with the La Liga duo among a host of names linked.

They also claim that Premier League rivals Everton and Spanish giants Barcelona have also shown interest in 25-year-old Jose, and that any deal for him would see Rafael Benitez’s side break their current transfer record of £15million set back in 2005 for Michael Owen.

The 6’2″ centre forward hit home 14 goals in 34 appearances for Sociedad last season, having joined from Uruguay side Maldonado last summer after proving himself in La Liga during a loan spell as Las Palmas.

He also scored five goals as he earned 15 caps for Brazil’s U20 side and helped them pick up the Under-20 World Cup in 2011, scoring twice during the competition.

Casilla meanwhile is Zinedine Zidane’s back up goalkeeper at Real Madrid, as he plays second fiddle to first choice stopper Keylor Navas.

The 30-year-old turned out 19 times across all competitions for the Spanish and European champions last season, keeping six clean sheets and conceding 22 goals.

His arrival at St James’ Park would almost certainly see departure of Karl Darlow this summer with the likes of Reading and Middlesbrough both interested, the Magpies reportedly rejecting a £5million offer from their North East neighbours.
