Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to urge their club to sign Villarreal ace Cedric Bakambu.
Their messages came after the Mirror reported that the Magpies would have to break their transfer record of £16million if they want to bring the 26-year-old front man to the North East.
The newspaper claimed Toon manager Rafa Benitez wants to bolster his attacking options this summer and Bakambu is a potential target.
The Telegraph reported on Saturday that West Ham United had seen a £22million bid for Bakambu rejected, so it is likely Newcastle would have to pay more than the £16million they paid for Michael Owen in 2005, if they want to secure the forward’s services.
The 26-year-old was in decent form for Villarreal last season, and he scored 11 goals in 34 league and cup games.
He joined the Spanish club in the summer of 2015 from Bursaspor for £6.3million, and he has since made 84 appearances across all competitions, which have yielded 33 goals and six assists.
The St James’ Park faithful were excited by the report which links their club to Bakambu, and they took to Twitter to show it.

Benitez is looking to strengthen all areas of his squad this summer, as the Toon prepare for their return to the Premier League.
Bakambu has been capped by the Republic of Congo on 12 occasions, and he has scored three goals.
