Newcastle and Everton are embroiled in a race to sign Las Palmas attacker Jonathan Viera, according to Wales Online.

The Welsh news outlet reports that Swansea are also keeping tabs on the 27-year-old and are keen on completing what is said to be a “big-money acquisition”.

It is understood that the Swans are looking for a possible replacement for Gylfi Sigurdsson, who could be set to move to Everton this summer.

However Wales Online reports that Viera is also on the radar of the Toffees, who have been ruthless in the transfer market so far, and Newcastle, who have already snapping up one winger on a permanent deal in Christian Atsu.

Spanish news outlet Canarias7 has recently reported that Swansea had made a bid for the La Liga attacker, although that has since been ruled out by the report on the Wales Online website.

Canarias7 does add that the former Spain Under-21 international has a £26.3million release clause tied into his contract at Las Palmas, which still has four years left to run on it.

Viera, who is known for his incredible passing ability, is a product of the Las Palmas academy and after spells with Valencia, Rayo Vallecano and Standard Liege, he returned to the Canary Islands club in 2015 on a loan deal which was soon made permanent.

He scored seven goals and supplied nine assists in 33 appearances across all competitions for Las Palmas last season, playing a starring role in the 3-3 draw with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in March when he bagged a goal and an assist.

Wales Online adds that La Liga outfit Real Betis are also interested in signing Viera.
