Former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville believes that Tottenham will offer a challenge to win their first Premier League title next season.

However the Sky Sports pundit maintains that the two Manchester clubs will prove too strong in the race for the crown and Tottenham will fall short yet again.

Mauricio Pochettino led Spurs to their highest ever finish in the Premier League last season as they finished in second place behind a ruthless Chelsea.

Despite Antonio Conte’s side showing immense ability to take the title in 2016/17, Neville, 42, firmly predicts that no one will be able to stop Manchester United or Manchester City from lifting the trophy next year.

“I said last season that the title would come to Manchester – and I was wrong – but I think this year it will,” he said, as quoted by the Sky Sports website.

“I think Chelsea will dip a little bit. Not in a negative way, but just having the Champions League will bring different challenges. I think Tottenham will be strong, but I feel that either United or City will win it, but I’m not sure who.”

Neville knows what it takes to be a Premier League champion, having won the trophy eight times during his career at Old Trafford.

Tottenham have only been English league title winners on two occasions in their entire history, with the last coming in 1960/61.

However the Londoners now have arguably one of the strongest squads in the entire country and will certainly be expected to emulate what they did last time out – or perhaps even go one step further.

Many believe that Pochettino has to introduce some strength in depth into his squad, but Spurs are currently the only team in the top-flight that have not purchased any new players in this transfer window.
