Mick Quinn has heavily criticised Stan Collymore and claimed that he is “talking rubbish” after the latter had some harsh words to say about Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mirror, Collymore recently accused the Spanish manager of being a “control freak” and warned Benitez to stop picking fights with the Newcastle hierarchy.

Collymore was reacting to reports that the Spaniard was unhappy with the lack of transfer activity at the club over the summer.

Writing in his column for the Chronicle, Quinn reveals that he was not best pleased with Collymore’s comments and claims that Benitez is entitled to feel unsatisfied with the way the club have handled the transfer business this summer.

“It was Stan Collymore who really boiled my blood this week,” he said.

“His uninformed opinion on Rafa Benitez over the weekend was just scandalous.

“The way Collymore describes Rafa – as a “benign dictator” and a “control freak” who has a problem with authority – is total rubbish.

“Rafa is a fair and honest man. All he wants from Ashley and the Newcastle board is for promises that he was given be kept.

“As for Collymore, well he should just keep opinions like that to himself. I couldn’t help but laugh when I read what he’d written, because it was total dross.

“Newcastle fans know Collymore is talking rubbish about Rafa, and that’s what matters.”

The Spaniard will surely be much happier after the club completed a deal to bring former Eibar defender Florian Lejeune to St James’ Park this summer.

The Tyneside club are set to complete more business before the new Premier League season gets underway as the Daily Mail recently reported that England international Joe Hart is eager to join Newcastle on a loan deal next season.

Newcastle will be hopeful that the new arrivals can adapt to the club as quickly as possible as they prepare for life back in the top tier of English football.
