Aiden McGeady is undergoing a medical at Sunderland ahead of his proposed transfer from Everton, according to a Sky Sports journalist.

Keith Downey, the North East reporter for the sports broadcaster, reported on his official Twitter account that the 31-year-old winger was on Wearside to complete the final part of his move.

McGeady was said to have travelled up to the North East on Thursday morning having completed talks with Everton over “contractual issues”, with the Northern Echo claiming that the deal is worth in the region of just £2million.

Versatile wide man McGeady spent almost the entirety of last season on loan at Championship side Preston North End, demonstrating some impressive form as he notched up eight goals and provided his team mates with another nine assists.

It was the second loan spell in England’s second tier while contracted by Everton, after he spent the latter half of the previous season with Sheffield Wednesday.

He joined the Toffees in the winter transfer window of 2014 from Spartak Moscow, but managed to pick up just one assist in 18 appearances in that season.

His first full season at Goodison Park showed little signs of improvement, as he managed to earn just 24 appearances, half of those starts, across all competitions, scoring a solitary goal and notching up three assists.

Sunderland will be hoping he can show the same form as he did at Preston, having suffered relegation last season after finishing in last place in the top flight last season.
