Manchester United have possibly moved a step closer to signing Alvaro Morata following crunch talks on Monday, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports correspondent Kaveh Solkehol claimed on his personal Twitter account that Morata’s father and his agent had a 50-minute meeting at the Bernabeu today with Real chiefs.

Solkehol hinted that the discussions could pave the way for the striker to move to United this summer.

Speculation has been intense in recent weeks that the Premier League giants are working on a deal that will make Morata one of their marquee signings this summer.

Reports in England and Spain have claimed talks are at an advanced stage over the 24-year-old swapping the Bernabeu for Old Trafford, with the Express claiming that he has told close friends the transfer will go through.

The Spain international, 24, has developed into a highly sought-after striker even though he was forced to play second fiddle to Karim Benzema as Real stormed to a La Liga and Champions League double in the recent domestic season.

Morata scored 20 goals and supplied six assists in 43 appearances across all competitions, including an impressive 15 league goals from 14 starts, but did not start the key matches, including the Champions League final.

He spent two years at Juventus before returning to Real for a second spell last summer after they exercised their option to buy back his contract for a fee of £25million.
