Inter Milan is set to swoop on Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, according to a report in Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper report that the Serie A giants are interested in recruiting the 28-year-old and are ready to take advantage if the midfielder is freed up following Chelsea’s potential signing of Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Corriere della Sport state that Inter have their eye on the defensive midfielder despite his links with Premier League club Manchester United.

It is said that Matic is the latest player to be named as a potential new recruit for the Italian club.

The report follows a recent story in The Telegraph which revealed that Matic gave a clear sign to his Chelsea team mates during training which suggested that he would be leaving the club this summer and that a long-touted move to United is still alive.

It is thought that Matic is on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer with fellow defensive midfielder Bakayoko set to undergo a medical before joining Antonio Conte’s side.

The Chelsea star has been continually linked with a Jose Mourinho reunion at Old Trafford this summer, as Matic was brought to Chelsea for a second spell with the club by the Portuguese manager back in 2014 for a fee of around £22 million.

Matic has won two Premier League titles with Chelsea, once with Mourinho in 2015 and again last season under Antonio Conte’s leadership.

It now looks as though Matic is wanted overseas for a debut appearance in the Serie A competition.

The Serbia international has a further two years left on his contract with the London club which contracts him to Stamford Bridge until 2019.

Despite looking destined for the Manchester Reds, Conte could be reluctant to sell the star to Mourinho after the United boss snatched the Romelu Lukaku deal at the weekend.
