Everton sources: No deal agreed for Lukaku

Chelsea are preparing to hijack Manchester United’s attempt to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton with a huge counter bid, according to Yahoo Sports.

This follows up from the earlier story in the BBC which reported that the Merseyside club had agreed a sensational £75million deal with United to sell the 24-year-old striker.

The Yahoo report claims that a senior official at Everton has informed Yahoo Sports that both clubs have yet to reach an agreement over the Belgian forward.

It is also said that a deal to take the Belgian striker to Premier League champions Chelsea is still on the cards as sources at the Merseyside club claim that Lukaku favours a return to Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.

It is likely that the Blues will need to produce a counter-bid which will blow the reported £75million deal out of the water if they want to secure the Belgian’s signature this summer.

However, it is reported that both United and Everton have been in negotiations over a deal for Lukaku during the past couple of days which have coincided with talks that could see Wayne Rooney return to his former club.

Lukaku spent three years at the West London club but he was sold by current United boss Jose Mourinho who was not convinced by his performances.

The Belgian has enjoyed great success playing his football at Goodison Park over the last three years, notching up a total of 87 goals in all competitions.

Lukaku’s current contract at Everton runs out in the summer of 2019.
