Newcastle United look set to miss out on another summer target as Stoke City prepare to make an offer for Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claims that Stoke and fellow Premier League side West Bromwich Albion are the firm favourites to battle it out to secure the 27-year-old’s signature this summer.

The report claims that Mark Hughes is ready to launch a £12million bid for the midfielder as he is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

It is reported that the Stoke manager has stepped his interest in the last couple of days as he looks to complete a deal before the team travel to Switzerland on Sunday for pre-season training.

It is said that West Brom have held discussions with the Manchester club over a potential permanent move with City not willing to sanction a loan deal this summer.

The Telegraph claims that the Magpies are interested in signing Delph in the transfer window but they are unlikely to match City’s asking price.

Newcastle have reportedly already missed out on a number of potential deals this summer, with goalkeeper Willy Caballero and striker Tammy Abraham both opting against joining the Tyneside club.

Delph has been unable to secure a regular place in the first-team since joining City two years ago as he has only made a total of 24 Premier League appearances for the Manchester club.

The Englishman’s contract at the Etihad Stadium expires in 2020.
