Manchester City have confirmed the signing of teenage sensation Douglas Luiz from Brazilian side Vasco de Gama.

The Manchester giants have welcomed the Under 20 Brazil international in a five-year-deal for a reported fee just over £10 million, which will see the midfielder at the club until 2022.

The 19-year-old will be loaned out immediately to La Liga outfit Girona in the hope of developing his talent and experience before he makes a first-team appearance at the Etihad.

City confirmed the news on their official Twitter account on Saturday and said that the club were delighted to welcome the newest signing.

The Brazilian starlet impressed during a small amount of appearances at Vasco de Gama last season after he played in just 10 games and scored a single goal.

City made the emphatic decision to sign fellow Brazilian youngster Gabriel Jesus in January, and will be hoping for a repeat in performance from the newest addition.

On the club’s official website Man City quoted their director of football, Txiki Begiristain, who spoke about the club’s most recent addition: “We are pleased to welcome Douglas. He is an exciting player with great potential, and everyone here is looking forward to helping him develop his talent and progress in the game.”

The club have revealed that they will make a further statement in the next few days about Luiz’ immediate development.

Luiz joins fellow new recruits goalkeeper Ederson from Benfica, Monaco’s Bernardo Silva and most recent signing Kyle Walker from Tottenham.
