Liverpool are sensationally closing in on the signing of midfielder Naby Keita after three huge developments, according to a reliable journalist.

Amadou Makadji, who reports in Keita’s native Guinea for the site Foot 224, claimed in a series of Twitter messages on Sunday afternoon that the Merseysiders are making significant progress in their bid to prise their key summer target from RB Leipzig.

Makadji reported on his personal Twitter account that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp held talks with Keita on Saturday in an attempt to persuade the 22-year-old to move to Anfield.

He explained that Liverpool are now convinced the dynamic midfielder wants to sign and will follow up with a concrete bid for his services on Sunday night.

Makadji added that Keita is set to meet with Leipzig officials, including the club president, on Monday to tell them he wants to quit and join Liverpool.

The transfer triple whammy represents major developments in Liverpool’s club-record pursuit of the Guinea international and comes after BBC Sport revealed in a report on their website that they are willing to pay a club-record fee to prise the midfielder from the Bundesliga club.

It has been reported in Germany that Leipzig have set a £70million asking price for the Guinea international, but the BBC claim that he has a £48million release clause in his contract that can be triggered in the summer of 2018.

Meanwhile, ESPN correspondent and ITV pundit Gabriele Marcotti stated on Friday that Keita has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool, including salary and contract length.

Liverpool have already made one major splash in this summer’s transfer market by paying £34million rising to a potential £39million to take Mohamed Salah from Roma last month.

Like Salah, Keita had an outstanding 2016-2017 domestic campaign both as goalscorer and creator following his arrival from Red Bull Salzburg last summer.

His 31 league appearances from a relatively deep position yielded eight goals and eight assists, and the 18-times international was a key player as his team qualified for a Champions League place.
