Leeds United ace Rob Green is a shock summer transfer target for Arsenal, according to a report in the Sun.

On page 63 of the July 2 edition of the Sun on Sunday, it is said Gunners manager Arsene Wenger could sign the 37-year-old shot-stopper as an emergency option, if David Ospina, Wojciech Szczesny or Emiliano Martinez leave this summer.

The newspaper claims Wenger’s current crop of back-up goalkeepers are all the subject of interest from other clubs, so Wenger may feel the need to bring in at least one new face, even if it is only to warm the bench.

The report states Green could potentially be keen on a move to Arsenal, if he wants to finish his career in the Premier League.

Green was a mainstay between the sticks for Leeds last term, making 47 appearances across all competitions.

He arrived at Elland Road on a free transfer last summer following the end of his deal at QPR, and he is under contract at the club until the summer of 2018.

The report details that the Gunners could make a move for Green if an acceptable agreement can be reached with the Whites, and if they can make the player an enticing contract offer.

Should Arsenal make a move for the 37-year-old it would come as a real shock, given his age and the fact it is very unlikely he would challenge Petr Cech for the club’s number one jersey.

Over the course of his lengthy career Green has made 267 Premier League appearances, and has been capped by England on 12 occasions.
