Ronald Koeman could be set to launch a new Everton transfer raid after Ramiro Funes Mori suffered a shattering injury blow, according to a reliable journalist.

The Times’ Merseyside correspondent Paul Joyce reported on his personal Twitter account on Thursday night that Funes Mori is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Joyce explained that Everton manager Koeman could now make a move for a left-sided centre-back who can replace the Argentina international in the heart of the defence.

Funes Mori, 26, was a regular for Everton last season until a knee injury sustained in March on international kept him out for the remainder of the campaign.

The Argentine has now suffered another reported serious injury and Koeman will weigh up whether to continue the extensive recruitment drive he has sanctioned this summer with another centre-back signing.

Everton recruited Michael Keane from Burnley last week for an initial £26million rising to £31million and can also call upon 2016 signing Ashley Williams and the veteran Phil Jagielka.

The Merseysiders have been the most active Premier League club in the summer transfer market, landing seven new signings and working on a number more.
