Estudiantes star Juan Foyth could join Tottenham this week, according to a report in the Evening Standard.

The newspaper, citing sources in South America, report that the deal for the 19-year-old could be worth £10 million and that the defender is recognised as a potential star by Spurs.

The Evening Standard has revealed that the Estudiantes president Juan Veron is expected to travel to Europe to begin discussions with the north London representatives over the next few days and that the deal could be completed by Sunday.

The report follows a recent story where the young centre-back stated that he would like to play in Europe at that his representatives were expected to meet with the Spurs hierarchy.

Foyth told the Argentinian online radio station Continental.com.ar: “I know that my agent and Veron are travelling to speak with Tottenham.

“I would like to play in Europe, and if something comes up that convinces me and the club I will go.”

The defender moved up to the Estudiantes first team in January this year, and made his debut for the club in March during a 1-0 home victory over Primera Division outfit Patronato.

The teenager continued to make four appearances for the club, and also played for his country during Argentina’s 3-0 defeat against England in the Under-20s World Cup in June.

Tottenham boss Maurico Pochettino could be looking to recruit the young Argentinian to use as a back-up in his squad’s defence as the Spurs’ backline already looks strong.

Last season, Spurs had the best Premier League defensive record after Pochettino’s side managed to keep 17 clean sheets and also conceded just 26 goals.
