Newcastle are in a four-club race to sign Arsenal ace Carl Jenkinson, according to a reliable journalist.

Bleacher Report correspondent Dean Jones reports that Premier League quartet Newcastle, Brighton, Burnley and Swansea are all weighing up moves for the 25-year-old defender

Jones posted a message on his personal Twitter account making the claim on Tuesday morning.

This comes after the Daily Mail claimed the Magpies were interested in signing Jenkinson this summer.

The newspaper stated that Premier League giants Arsenal were keen to raise some transfer funds in order to pursue a move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, and the 25-year-old could be one of the players allowed to leave the club.

The defender arrived at the Emirates in the summer of 2011 in a £1million switch from Charlton Athletic, and he has since made 62 appearances across all competitions for the club.

He has been tipped to push on and become a regular in the Gunners’ back line last term, but injuries ravaged his campaign, and he only played five league and cup games for the side.

Jenkinson is primarily a right-back, but he is also comfortable at centre-back and at left-back, which makes him a useful squad player.

The 25-year-old has won one cap for England, making his full international debut in the 4-2 friendly defeat to Sweden in 2012.
