Swansea reject £40million Everton bid for Sigurdsson

Everton have had a £40million offer for Gylfi Sigurdsson from Premier League rivals Swansea rejected, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports correspondent Kaveh Solkehol claimed on his official Twitter account on Thursday morning that the Swans have turned down yet another Everton bid for the 27-year-old midfielder.

This comes after the Welsh club announced on their official website and their official Twitter account that the attacking midfielder will not be part of their pre-season tour to the United States following speculation about his future.

Solkehol reported that Sigurdsson is not in the “right frame of mind” to join the tour as Everton’s interest intensifies.

ESPN reported that the Swans had rejected a £27million bid from the Toffees for the attacking midfielder at the end of June.

With Solhekol reporting that Swansea are asking for £50million, Everton will need to smash the club’s previous transfer record when they recently signed goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland earlier this summer for £30million.

Everton’s pursuit of the attacking midfielder is likely to run on until the end of the transfer window and the Toffees appear to face some competition as the BBC recently reported that fellow Premier League side Leicester City are also in the hunt to sign Sigurdsson.

Sigurdsson was one of the star performers for the Swans last season as his outstanding contribution prevented them from being relegated to the Championship.

The Iceland international finished as the club’s second highest goalscorer in all competitions last season with 10 strikes to his name and he also provided an astonishing 13 assists.

The attacking midfielder’s current contract at the Liberty Stadium runs out in 2020.
