La Liga outfit Sevilla are on the brink of signing Sampdoria forward Luis Muriel for a fee that is £11million less than Everton offered, according to Diario de Sevilla.

The newspaper claims that the Andalusian club stepped up their pursuit of the 26-year-old on Tuesday evening and managed to reach an agreement with Serie A side Sampdoria over a potential deal.

The report claims that the club’s decision was influenced by the player’s eagerness to join the La Liga side next season.

It is said that the Colombian has agreed personal terms with the Spanish club and he is set to put pen to paper on a four-year contract for a fee that could exceed £17million, making him Sevilla’s all-time record transfer.

It is reported that the deal has still not been finalised as there are still a couple of details that need to be agreed concerning the deal.

The newspaper reports that Everton made an offer around £28million for the striker but the La Liga side had already tied up an agreement with the player a couple of weeks ago.

The Merseyside are not likely to be too disheartened by the news as they have already completed a deal to sign Spanish striker Sandro from Malaga this summer.

Muriel enjoyed an impressive campaign with Sampdoria last season, notching up 13 goals in all competitions and helping them secure a place in the top half of the league table.
