Rooney to be followed by Sigurdsson at Everton

|

Everton are set to follow up the signing of Wayne Rooney by landing Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City this week, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim that the Merseysiders will complete a deal that will seal a sensational return to Goodison Park for Rooney in the next 24 hours after he underwent a medical at their Finch Farm base on Saturday.

The Mirror report that Everton will then put the finishing touches to the signing of midfield creator Sigurdsson after reaching an agreement with Swansea for a fee of £30million.

It is said that the Toffees are prepared to hand Sigurdsson, 27, a £135,000-a-week contract to join the revolution engineered by Ronald Koeman.

The arrivals of proven Premier League players Rooney and Sigurdsson will offset any of the concern among supporters about star striker Romelu Lukaku joining Manchester United on Saturday for a reported fee of £90million.

Sigurdsson is at the peak of his powers and widely regarded as one of the most creative and consistently effective players in his position in the Premier League.

He scored nine goals and supplied 13 assists from 38 league matches last season, with only Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne setting up more goals.

The former Tottenham player is in line to become Everton’s seventh major summer signing following Rooney, Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Henry Onyekuru, Sandro Ramires and Michael Keane.
