Everton ready to table new Sigurdsson bid

|

Everton are willing to table a new bid for Gylfi Sigurdsson of more than £30million, according to the Sun.

The print edition of the newspaper on Sunday (2 July, page 63) claim the cash-rich Merseysiders are ready to continue the transfer siege on Swansea, where defenders Alfie Mawson and Kyle Bartley are much in demand and the products of major bids.

Swansea have said they have no intention of selling Sigurdsson, 27, amid reports that they are looking for a fee closer to £40million this summer.

That fee would see the Merseyside club break their transfer record for the second time this summer, after they secured the signing of Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for a reported £30million.

Ronald Koeman’s side have also signed Dutch midfielder Davy Klaassen for £24million, winger Henry Onyekuru for £6.8million and striker Sandro Ramires for £5.2million as they look to improve on a seventh placed finish last season.

Assist king Sigurdsson led the way last season for Swansea as they secured their Premier League survival despite a turnover of three different managers in the dugout.

The 50-times Iceland international played in all of the Swans’ top flight fixtures, scoring nine goals and contributing 13 assists, a tally bettered in the Premier League only by Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne.

Sigurdsson is contracted at the Liberty Stadium until 2020 after signing an extension last summer.
