Everton and Liverpool are both eyeing up Paris Saint Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe but face a fight to secure his signing, according to RMC Sport.

The French sports news outlet claim on their website that the two Merseyside rivals are joined by Inter Milan in the hunt for the 21-year-old centre-back, but face a side reluctant to let one of their promising stars depart.

To make things more difficult for Kimpembe’s potential suitors, the player himself is said to be a huge fan of PSG, and that he does see himself leaving the club this summer.

Despite his age, the youngster began last season in the club’s starting XI for their opening six league games, and went on to appear in a total of 28 matches across all competitions.

Prior to the 2016/17 campaign he had made just 10 first team appearances for the French giants, operating as either a centre-back or a left-back.

He is also a French Under-21 international, having made his debut for his country’s youth side in September 2015, and has gone on to make 11 appearances for his country.

It awaits to be seen whether Everton will be in the market for another centre-back this summer having already secured the capture of former Burnley man Michael Keane, while Ashley Williams, Phil Jagielka, Ramiro Funes Mori and Mason Holgate are all options at the heart of the defence.

Meanwhile Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may be seeking to bolster his back four, with Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and Mamadou Sakho the senior options available.
