Costa agrees to join Atletico Madrid

Diego Costa has agreed to re-join La Liga side Atletico Madrid as his exit from Chelsea moves a major step closer, according to AS.

It is said that sources close to the 28-year-old have assured the Spanish newspaper that the striker has already agreed personal terms with the Spanish outfit.

The Spanish newspaper claims that Costa is desperate for the two clubs to reach an agreement on the fee which would complete his summer move to Madrid.

The report claims that Atletico have tabled a bid to the Premier League champions in excess of £26million for the centre-forward but the Blues did not consider this to be an acceptable offer.

It is said that Costa is due to return to England for pre-season training on Monday morning but the Spain international is threatening not to make an appearance until a deal is agreed to let him join Atletico this summer.

The striker is set for a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer after Chelsea boss Antonio Conte informed him via text message that he is surplus to requirements at the club next season.

Costa has been one of Chelsea’s most influential players since securing a permanent move to the club three years ago.

The centre-forward finished as the club’s top goalscorer in both their Premier League title winning campaigns.

Costa has notched up 58 goals in all competitions during his three-year spell in West London.

The striker currently has two years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
