Burnley have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report on the live transfer blog on their official website on Saturday (12:28) that the Premier League side are interested in landing the 29-year-old.

The report claims that Burnley manager Sean Dyche is a huge admirer of the midfielder and he is eager to secure McArthur’s signature as he wants to bolster the squad ahead of the new season.

It is said that new Palace boss Frank de Boer might want to freshen up the midfield options this summer which would indicate that the Scotland international might be allowed to leave Selhurst Park.

The Mail report that Villa have made an approach for McArthur after though manager Steve Bruce is also working on a deal to sign Glenn Whelan from Stoke.

McArthur is not the only Premier League midfielder who is being linked with a move to join forces with Steve Bruce as the Mirror recently reported that Stoke City’s Glenn Whelan has his heart set on a move to Villa this summer.

The Scotsman has been an important part of the Palace first-team since securing a permanent move to South London three years ago.

The midfielder featured in 31 matches last season, contributing with five goals and four assists in all competitions.

McArthur’s contract at Selhurst Park runs out at the end of next season.
