Dutch teenager Millen Baars has updated his Instagram page to confirm he has joined Manchester United.

The attacking midfielder, 17, left Ajax earlier in the summer amid reports he was set to join a Premier League club, with United, Chelsea and Arsenal among those pursuing him.

It has been speculated for some time that Baars had agreed a deal in principle to move to Old Trafford.

The youngster appeared to confirm the move on his Instagram page yesterday (Thursday) by updating his bio to read: ‘Footballer for Manchester United’.

The Ajax academy product was spotted by United scout Marcel Bout last year during the reign of Louis van Gaal and retained his place in the scouting network when Jose Mourinho took over as manager.

The midfielder informed the Dutch club of his intention to leave Amsterdam in January but couldn’t join United until the move was given international clearance.

‘There was interest from Italy, Portugal and England, but when he was at Chelsea and United to look, he knew he wanted to play in Manchester. He did not even see Arsenal, his choice was made,’ his father Stefan has been quoted as saying.

The red tape hurdles now appear to have been cleared, which paves the way for Baars to link up with the the academy at the Premier League giants, where he is likely to play for the Under-18s.

The age-group side finished fourth in the Under-18 league in the last campaign, behind the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and local rivals City, with their final fixture of the season a 4-2 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers.
