Steve Bruce would take his Aston Villa defence from strength to strength by following up the signing of John Terry with Bournemouth defender Marc Wilson.

Villa confirmed the signing of 36-year-old Terry on their official website on Monday afternoon, as the former Chelsea and England captain puts pen to paper on a one-year deal.

Sky journalist Rob Dorsett claimed on his personal Twitter account that Villa’s bitter rivals West Brom are looking to sign Bournemouth ace Wilson and have opened talks over completing a £1million deal.

The 29-year-old was on loan at the Baggies since January after being ostracised by Cherries manager Eddie Howe and now Tony Pulis wants to make the Ireland international a permanent signing at the Hawthorns.

However, This Is Futbol examines three reasons why Villa would give themselves the best defence in the Championship with the signing of Wilson this summer.
