Phil Neville believes that Everton could potentially be “one of the teams to watch this year” should they secure the signature of Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

His comments come after Sky Sports correspondent Kaveh Solkehol reported on his personal Twitter account that the Welsh side had rejected a £40million offer from Everton for the 27-year-old.

Neville is someone who understands what it takes to be a success at Goodison Park as he made a total of 300 appearances for the Merseyside club during his eight-year spell at the club.

As quoted in the Daily Mirror, Neville reveals that he is looking forward to watching his former side next season and he believes that the Iceland international could take them to the next level.

“I think he is a good player and what you are buying with Sigurdsson is a player who provides a lot of assists,” he said.

“Sigurdsson, the thing that worries me is the money, but he would provide assists.

“All of a sudden Everton have a really creative side. Add Sigurdsson into that, Everton could be one of the teams to watch this year.”

Sigurdsson was instrumental in helping the Swans avoid relegation to the Championship last season, producing some outstanding performances throughout the campaign.

The attacking midfielder scored 10 goals and provided an incredible 13 assists in all competitions last season.

Sigurdsson was rewarded for his contribution as he picked the two main Player of the Year awards during the club’s annual end of season ceremony in May.

The midfielder could be the missing link in helping the Toffees secure Champions League football for the first time in over a decade.
