Brendan Rodgers would rule the Scottish football roost once again by continuing Celtic’s dominance north of the border with the signing of Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

The Sun claim Championship side Middlesbrough have had a £5million bid rejected for the Toon stopper, who lost his place in between the sticks under Rafa Benitez towards the end of last season.

It is said the Toon are willing to sell the former Nottingham Forest stopper but have told Garry Monk’s Boro that they will have to return with a larger sum if they want to sign the 26-year-old goalkeeper.

Celtic have already made two signings this summer in winger Jonny Hayes from Aberdeen, while teenage midfielder Kundai Benyu joins from Ipswich Town.
