Celtic legend MacLeod urges Rodgers to sell Rogic

Celtic icon Murdo MacLeod has said that Brendan Rodgers should look to offload midfielder and fan favourite Tom Rogic this summer.

The 24-year-old Australian international has established himself as an important player for the Hoops since arriving from Central Coast Mariners in the winter of 2013, with 91 appearances, 22 goals and 14 assists under his belt.

Last season was no different as he made 37 appearances across all competitions as he helped his club on the way to a domestic treble and an unbeaten season in Scotland.

His performances have helped him become a fan favourite, with his stunning strike which secured the Scottish Cup only endearing him to fans even further.

However former midfielder MacLeod, who made 281 appearances for the Hoops between 1978 and 1987, believes that manager Rodgers should sell the playmaker this summer while they can demand a high price.

He puts the Australian’s performances for his country at this years Confederations Cup down as a reason his value has risen, and says that if a club makes a move, Celtic should listen to their offer.

He told the Daily Record: “Any bids would have to be considered as his stock is quite high at the minute after playing at the Confederations Cup.

“The supporters like him when he is on the park but the Aussie is not there often enough. Verdict: Sell.”

He has picked up 18 caps for Australia, scoring four goals, since his debut as a substitute against South Korea back in 2012, with his most recent appearance coming in a 1-1 draw with Cameroon at the Confederations Cup.
