Wayne Rooney scored a wonder goal in his first game back at Everton – and Toffees supporters on Twitter lost their minds.

The 31-year-old, who has recently secured a move back to Merseyside from Manchester United, scored a screamer to open the scoring in Everton’s 2-1 win overĀ Gor Mahia in Tanzania on Thursday.

New recruit Davy Klaassen also featured in the clash, which was won by Kieran Dowell’s goal.

Everton have not been afraid to dip their toes into the transfer market this summer and Rooney is just one of a spate of new faces at Goodison Park ahead of next season.

The England international penned a two-year deal with the Merseysiders as Romelu Lukaku went the other way to Old Trafford.

Rooney began his career with the Toffees and has already shown a glimpse of what fans can come to expect from his during his second spell with the club – with one saying that his goal was “unreal”.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Rooney, who will wear the No 10 shirt for Everton next season, will be looking to add to the 71 appearances and 15 goals he picked up in his first spell on Merseyside.

The 119-times England international made over 550 appearances for Man United, where he won five Premier League titles and the 2007/08 Champions League.
