Dalrymple: Wolves manager will have a say in transfers

Laurie Dalrymple has made it clear that it would be “dangerous” if Wolves did not involve their new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo in potential signings.

The club’s managing director was adamant that Nuno, who replaced Paul Lambert in the dugout in May, will have a say about the club’s transfers heading into the summer window.

Former Porto coach Nuno has taken charge of a Wolves side that finished in the bottom half of the Championship during the recently concluded campaign.

There is no doubt that his main task next term will be to help the club finish in the top six ahead of a potential return to the Premier League.

The summer transfer window will officially open on July 1 and Dalrymple stated that everyone will be involved in the negotiations at the club.

“There’s a recruitment structure within the club that now involves Nuno, clearly – our recruitment department here, Nuno and the owners,” said Dalrymple, as quoted by the Express and Star. “Everything goes past everyone, particularly the head coach

“It would be dangerous to have a situation where if the coach turned up and we say by the way here’s your first player and he’s never even clapped eyes on him but he’s in the squad on June 26 so get used to it… far from it.

“The process with which we take decisions involve the coach, the recruitment team and the owner.”

A Chinese investment group Fosun completed their takeover of the Midlands outfit last July, with the new owners appointing Walter Zenga as manager.

The Italian lasted only 14 matches under their ownership as his side flirted with relegation, with former Aston Villa boss Lambert steering Wolves to safety.

However, Lambert has since left the club, lasting only seven months in the job, helping the club secure a number of memorable wins, including beating Premier League side Liverpool at Anfield in the FA Cup.
