Veteran goalkeeper Craig Wight claims that reported new Rangers signing Alfredo Morelos reminds him of Kenny Miller.

Wight was a teammate of Miller at Rangers during the early stages of his career, and he now plays his trade in the Finnish top-flight at a rival of Morelos’ HJK Helsinki.

A report in the Daily Express previously claimed Morelos is set to undergo a medical at the Glasgow giants, and that he has already agreed personal terms with the club.

It was said a £1million fee has been agreed between the sides, while the 20-year-old striker has already said his goal is to win titles with the Gers.

The deal looks all but done, and now Wight has said he believes Morelos can learn from Miller’s experience.

In an interview with the Daily Record, he said: “There is no doubt Morelos reminds me of Kenny in terms of his attitude and approach to the game, and learning from his experience at Ibrox will only enhance his game.

“I spoke about Morelos to our central-defenders, club skipper Jani Lyyski and Finnish international Kristian Kojola, and they say they know they’ve been in a game when they’ve played against him.

“He’s physical, puts himself about and is a tireless runner, with real pace to play on the shoulder of a defence and make darting runs in behind. They complained he is a pest, who never gave them a moment’s peace.”

Wight’s complementary comments on Morelos are backed up by the player’s record in front of goal – he scored 16 goals in 30 games after joining Helsinki on loan in February 2016 from Columbian side Deportivo Independiente Medellin.

The 20-year-old made the move permanent in December 2016, going on to score 11 goals in 12 league outings last term.

Morelos has been capped by Columbia’s Under-20s side on six occasions, and he has bagged seven goals for the youth outfit.
