Werder Bremen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald will jet in to England to undergo a medical with Leeds in the next 24 hours, according to reliable journalist Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post chief football writer has detailed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday (10.44am) that the 27-year-old’s move is “on” with a medical now scheduled.

Wiedwald’s move has gathered great pace this week with German outlet Kicker reporting on Tuesday afternoon that the German had reached an agreement with the Yorkshire giants, while the Mail reported on Wednesday morning that Leeds could spend as much as £400,000 to secure his signature.

The former Germany Under-20 international was a frequent fixture in Werder Bremen’s first team last season as they achieved an eighth placed finish in the Bundesliga.

The goalkeeper made 26 appearances for Bremen in all competitions, conceding 51 times, while keeping just five clean sheets and he will be hoping for a better record if he does move to England.

Leeds currently have veteran Rob Green between the sticks after he joined last summer, but the club may now be looking for a younger alternative than the 37-year-old.

New owner Andrea Radrizzani is already proving popular in his first summer at the club despite the departure of successful manager Garry Monk with each of Hadi Sacko and Mateusz Klich already signing alongside the re-purchase of Elland Road and Wiedwald could be the next to join.
