Ex-Finland midfielder Simo Valakari believes Rangers goalscorer target Alfredo Morelos is just like Tottenham star Harry Kane.

The Scottish Sun claimed on Friday morning that Rangers had struck an agreement with HJK Helsinki over a £1million fee to sign the 20-year-old striker this summer.

Morelos was in stunning form for the Finland-based outfit last season, scoring 21 goals from 25 appearances in all competitions, including four goals from six matches in the Europa League.

But Pedro Caixinha is keen to bring his firepower to Ibrox this summer, as he seeks even further reinforcements to his first-team squad, having already added five players.

Former Dundee United manager Miku Paatelainen has already sung the praises of the Colombian Under 20 international ahead of his potential move, and Finnish icon Valakari has echoed his verdict.

However, Valakari has also made the stunning claim that Morelos is similar to England goalscorer Harry Kane, who scored an incredible 35 goals from just 38 appearances for Tottenham last season.

He told the Evening Times: “He’s the best player in the country, by far. Without him HJK wouldn’t be top of the league. He’s scored most of the goals and brings a presence to the team.

“I can still see Rangers are a huge club but they could sell him on definitely. He will bring goals for Rangers and a good player for them. They can build around him because he will score goals.

“Internationally he’s similar to Harry Kane. He can shoot with both feet, is good in the air too, but he works hard for the team. He can link up and pass. He reminds me a lot of him.”

Caixinha and Rangers will certainly hope Morelos, should a deal go ahead as planned, can have a Kane-like impact in the race to end Celtic’s dominance in Scotland next season.

Celtic secured their sixth successive Scottish Premiership title last season with relative ease, whilst also cruising to victories in both the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup, completing a domestic treble.

However, a disappointing season for third-placed Rangers, Caixinha is determined to build a side capable of bringing the glory days back to the Glasgow giants, and believes Morelos can provide a difference in attack.
